Anthropic Announces "Claude for Commerce": A Toolkit for Shopping and Merchant Agents
Anthropic announced a toolkit for building commerce agents on top of Claude. It has two sides: a "Shopping Agent" that talks to customers and runs the purchase, and a "Merchant Agent" that takes on the business's back office.

Our take
This lands right in our audience's world: the "Merchant Agent" side especially — sales analytics, inventory, pricing, drafting marketing — is exactly the work a small business most wants to offload. But be clear on two things. First, this isn't a plug-and-play app; it's a developer blueprint and SDK. A solo shop owner won't install it directly — the value will most likely reach you through platforms you already use (Shopify, Square, and Wix are launch partners, so these capabilities may start showing up inside those tools). Second, the 35% and 60% figures are Anthropic's own data; directional, not independent proof. In short, the signal is that "AI runs both the shopping conversation and the merchant's back office" is turning from concept into real infrastructure, with major commerce players on board. If you sell online, expect these capabilities to appear inside your existing platform — and watch which of your tools adopt it.
