Meta Connect 2026: Retail Connectors for the Muse Agent, New Smart Glasses, and VR Glasses in 2027
At its Connect 2026 event on September 23, Meta shared a long list of announcements spanning hardware and AI. From our angle, the most interesting part is how Meta plans to grow its personal AI agent, Muse: through connectors built with partner companies.
In brief
- The Muse agent: a real-time voice mode with customizable voices, its own email address, Mac computer use (it can drive any app with permission), and a hands-free arrival on smart glasses. The standout: 15+ new connectors, including Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, Ulta, Wayfair, Gap, Shop Pay, PayPal, Expedia, Instacart, Notion, GitHub, and Box.
- Glasses (now/soon): Ray-Ban Meta Audio open-ear glasses (12-hour battery) and a slimmer Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3; the display-equipped Ray-Ban Meta Display is now on sale in Canada and the UK, with pre-orders in France, Italy, and Germany (shipping October 13).
- Coming later: $1,299.99 Meta VR Glasses weighing about 100 grams, in spring 2027; FDA-cleared hearing enhancement on the glasses ($149.99 or via subscription, US later in 2026); landmark-based navigation, workout and nutrition tracking, and a shopping assistant that identifies products.
- Scale target: 100+ AI glasses styles by the end of 2026.
Our take
The hardware is impressive, but much of it lands in 2027 and in select countries. What matters more for us is how Muse grows. Last week Amazon blocked Muse from its site, saying it shopped without permission and without identifying itself. At Connect, the picture is different: connectors built openly with companies like Walmart, Best Buy, Shop Pay, and PayPal. Amazon isn't on that list. We can't draw a direct cause-and-effect line between the two, but the direction is clear: agentic shopping is shifting from "browse into any site" toward "connect by agreement with the platform." If you sell online, that means whether you can reach customers through AI agents will depend heavily on which platforms strike deals with those agents.
